The Daily Schedule of the Late King Saud (1965–1969)

Activities and Routine

Dawn

Rising for the Fajr prayer, followed by recitation of the Qur’an, then returning to rest.

9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

After breakfast, His Majesty would descend to the men’s council, receive visitors, and listen to and analyze international news.

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon

A daily drive for leisure, taking tea at one of the seaside parks overlooking the sea.

12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Performing the Dhuhr prayer with guests—often leading the congregation when his health permitted—then returning to his residence to sit in the council and receive visitors.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Lunch with his entourage, guests, and visitors.

2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Arabic coffee in the council after lunch.

3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Performing the Asr prayer, followed by time spent with his family.

4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Performing the Maghrib prayer, then taking a period of rest in his private suite.

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Evening majlis with the men and the khawiyah, receiving visitors, taking tea and coffee, and exchanging views with those present.

8:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Performing the Isha prayer, followed by dinner with his family on regular days, or with his wives, sons, and daughters who visited him during the summer months.

9:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Returning to the council with the khawiyah and guests, discussing local and international news.

10:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight

The private family majlis, sharing conversations and intimate discussions.

12:00 midnight

Retiring to rest in his private suite.
