When King Saud—may God have mercy upon him—was in Greece, it happened that he turned the dial of his radio and unexpectedly heard the call to prayer from Riyadh, recited in the voice of Ibn Majid, the most renowned muezzin in Najd. Shaykh ʿAbd al‑ʿAzīz ibn Majid, beloved by the people of Riyadh, was considered the foremost caller to prayer in the region.
The moment His Majesty recognized Ibn Majid’s voice, he was overcome with emotion. He wept until his beard was soaked with tears, stirred by the memory of Riyadh, the city he loved and longed for.
