In 1954, King Hussein ordered to form a committee for the restoration of the third holyIslamic site in Islam ,(the Aqsa Mosque al-Sharif )and ,(the Dome of the Rock ). He issued a law , known as "the law of the restoration of the Aqsa mosque, and the Dome of the "Rock No. "(32) in 1954 .
King Hussein sent a letter from the Ministry of Public Awqaf (Endowment) in the Kingdom of Jordan to the Public Works Ministry in Cairo, stating the existence of cracks in the pillars of the Dome of the Rock .Egypt immediately prepared a tender to bid for the restoration costs .to be sent to the Muslim world The Commission has estimated the amount needed was in the range of (420000) JD JordanianDinar. Donations from Muslim Governments , organizations and individual amounted to (16,700) dinars . the Iraqi government donated (73000) JD Jordanian and the rest was given by King Saud bin Abdul Aziz , which amounted to (33 300) .The United States proposed the demolition of the wooden dome and build instead a concrete dome but the Egyptian proposal was to restore and maintain the wooden dome .
Muhamed bin Laden firm submitted the lowest bid for the tender , and was recommended by King Saud . Egyptian and Muslim engineers were assigned for the job .

Fixing the external walls of the mosque and the installation of marble columns in the four corridors ,stained glass windows were replaced ,Restoration of the roof and the interior and exterior walls.
Restoration of the the Dome of the Rock.
Installation of external dome of golden aluminum .Putting marble interior and exterior walls, and restoring them. Restoration of faïence tile exterior and decorating them with Koranic verses from the Surat "Yaseen" and Surat "Al-Isra".
On 06.06.1964 ,/ after the end of the restoration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the dome of the rock , a big celebration took place in the presence of KingHussein at the Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyard and Dome of the Rock after the completion of .second phase for restoration
