Prince Saud’s Speech on the Occasion of Accession Anniversary

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Praise be to God, the Mighty, the Bestower, who has graced this blessed Arabian Peninsula with His abundant generosity, guided it to His profound wisdom, unified its regions, and brought together the hearts of its people under the noble and tolerant Islamic Sharia, and beneath the banner of His Majesty the revered father, the great King, who has completed the fifty‑first year of his blessed reign. A reign during which God has bestowed upon the country His grace and success, and surrounded it with justice and security, firmly established upon the foundations of the true religion.

With his sharp insight, far‑reaching vision, sound governance, and wise conduct, His Majesty has paved the way for prosperity and well‑being, from which the nation—across all its classes—has benefited. Paths of progress and development have opened throughout the Kingdom, and construction projects of various types and purposes continue to unfold, all aimed at elevating this nation to the honorable rank it deserves among nations. These projects expand to include all segments of society, and their benefits reach even the farthest regions.

And as we cast, on this blessed day, a general look at the world we live in—stumbling in a vast sea of political problems, social dilemmas, and hardship in livelihood and thought—we find, when tracing the causes and origins of these troubles, that they are but tangible consequences of abandoning many of the sound principles brought forth by our noble religion and the lofty morals of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

There is no path to salvation from these calamities and their evils except by returning to the principles of the Holy Qur’an and the traditions of the noble Prophet. On this eternal occasion, I send—on the wings of the ether—this call to our Arab and Muslim brothers, driven by the love, sincerity, and goodwill I hold for them in my heart. For there can be no success or prosperity for us except by adhering to these two principles, in word and deed, and by avoiding all that contradicts them. I pray that God restores to the Islamic nation this blessing and this upright foundation, which is our foundation, O Muslims.

With hearts filled with joy and tongues expressing praise and gratitude, we pray that His Majesty our revered King enters his fifty‑first year of rule blessed with abundant health, notable vigor, and high resolve—qualities he has always devoted to uplifting his noble nation and serving the Arab and Islamic worlds. From the beginning of his blessed reign, His Majesty has taken upon himself, with sincerity and sacrifice, the mission of achieving their aspirations, raising their standing, and defending them from injustice, through cooperation and solidarity with all those working toward this goal.

May God grant them all success in what benefits them and their countries, and elevate them to the lofty ranks they seek. He is All‑Hearing, Responsive.
