Our grief is deepened by the fact that we lost him at a time when we were in greatest need of his unique wisdom, his experience, his insight, and his guidance. In him we lost a compassionate father, a righteous king, and a just leader.”

“Now that the lawful pledge of allegiance has placed upon me the responsibility of ascending the throne and assuming the duties of governance, I shall keep ever before my eyes the example of our late father — his sound judgment, noble character, and distinguished qualities in administering the affairs of the state.”
“I pledge before God to uphold His Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be upon him), and to defend them with my words and my heart. I shall devote all my effort to the happiness and welfare of my beloved people, and to the advancement of our country politically, economically, and socially.”
“I shall remain vigilant in safeguarding the interests of the nation and securing the rights of its citizens, overcoming every obstacle that stands in our path, and rejecting every corrupt or harmful practice.”
“We shall give special attention to strengthening our military and national forces.”
“I shall also continue striving to reinforce the bonds of Islamic and Arab brotherhood with all Muslim and Arab nations, and to preserve the friendships with foreign countries that our late father valued — ensuring that our beloved country maintains its rightful place in supporting global peace.”
