King Saud’s Address to His People — 1955

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

From Saud bin Abdulaziz Al‑Faisal Al‑Saud to his beloved people,
Peace be upon you, and God’s mercy.

“The Salafi school established in Baljurashi by Nasser bin Mughram and Mohammed bin Jumah — whose curriculum is the teaching of Islam, the Salafi creed, clarifying truth from falsehood, avoiding what God has forbidden, and upholding what He has permitted — was founded by these men at their own expense and through the donations of righteous benefactors.”

“After our visit to this region and our inspection of the school, we were pleased by what we saw from its teachers and students — their sound creed, their call to God, and the people’s strong response to these noble and upright principles. We hope these principles will continue to grow and spread throughout the Kingdom, for this nation has no strength, no honor, and no stability except through this creed, this righteous call, and adherence to the Book of God and the Sharia of His Prophet (peace be upon him).”

“No nation can preserve its existence or defend itself against enemies except by holding firmly to God’s religion, His Book, and the Sunnah of His Messenger. If we uphold this — in speech, in action, and in sincere belief — then we have fulfilled the message, gained strength, and confronted our enemies with the mightiest weapon: the divine weapon that no earthly power can match.”

“God says in His Book: ‘Indeed, God defends those who believe.’
If we defend His religion, He will defend us. But if we neglect it and rely on empty words and wishes, it will not benefit us. As the Prophet said: ‘God does not look at your outward forms or your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.’

“We pray that we may be among those whose words are sincere, whose hearts believe, and whose deeds confirm their faith.”

Royal Support for the School

“On this occasion, we have ordered that the expenses of this righteous Salafi school — whose love of goodness and devotion to God we have witnessed — be covered from our personal funds, including the salaries of its teachers and the needs of its students. We have also ordered the construction of a second floor to house students who come from distant areas.”

“We seek through this only closeness to God, the strengthening of religion, and support for those who uphold it. We hope to see throughout our Kingdom — in cities and villages — those who carry this call in accordance with the commands of God and His Messenger, applying what is found in the Qur’an and Sunnah. We will support and assist them, for the one who combats ignorance, deviation, and corruption — and those who show no regard for religion — is a true soldier of God. And indeed: ‘The soldiers of God — they are the victorious.’”

A Call to Piety and Uprightness

“I advise myself and my people to fear God — in private and in public, in ease and in hardship — to hold fast to His religion, to follow the Sunnah of His Messenger, and to avoid anything that harms our faith, our Islamic traditions, or our noble Arab values that Islam itself upholds.”

“If we act upon this, we will succeed in our religious and worldly affairs. But if we abandon it — God forbid — then how insignificant we would be before God, as He says: ‘Indeed, God does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.’”

“This does not prevent us from adopting every form of strength — military, material, and moral — and every means that advances the country and elevates it in all fields of life, so long as it does not contradict Islam.”

Closing Prayer

“I ask God to show us and you the truth as truth and grant us the ability to follow it, and to show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the ability to avoid it. I ask Him to let me see in you what pleases me — righteousness in your religion and your worldly affairs — and to make us all guided and guiding, supporters of truth and of what benefits our religion and our worldly life. May He grant victory to His religion, elevate His word, and defeat His enemies. He is our sufficiency and the best of protectors.
