King Saud: Resolve Our Affairs and Unite Our Word — 1955

Address of King Saud: “We Shall Take Ramadan as a Spur to Resolve Our Affairs and Unite Our Word” — 1955

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

His Majesty King Saud, Monarch of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, issued the following message to the Islamic world on the occasion of the advent of the blessed month of Ramadan:

“Praise be to God, who illuminated our paths with the light of Islam, guided us to its way, and purified our souls through the obligation of fasting. Blessings and peace be upon the best of God’s prophets, Muhammad, who called us to truth and to a straight path. As we welcome the month of fasting, it pleases us to send from the cradle of revelation our warmest greetings to our Muslim brothers, thanking the Almighty for the return of Ramadan.”

His Majesty continued:

“Islam is a religion of action and earnest striving; words without deeds avail nothing. It is a faith that rejects indolence. Islam was built upon lofty principles: brotherhood among believers, justice among people, and the prohibition of aggression, for God does not love aggressors but loves those who do good. These principles call us to compassion, mercy, restraining the hand from harm, and extending it toward goodness and benevolence.”

He added:

“By these noble principles, Muslims rose in their earliest days, spreading the light of knowledge and establishing a golden age founded on enjoining right and forbidding wrong. Yet when Muslims later abandoned these principles, they declined in their faith and became prey to the ambitions of others.”

His Majesty then declared:

“Today, by God’s grace, we enter a blessed era of renewed awareness. We feel within ourselves a stirring of good that urges us to return to the principles of our faith, to uphold its law and noble character, and to reclaim the honor and glory we have lost. With God’s help, we shall become a righteous and active nation in this troubled world—working for good, establishing peace, and spreading tranquility.”

Finally, he proclaimed:

“We shall take the blessed month of Ramadan as a spur to renew our covenant with our Lord: to worship Him sincerely, to strengthen our resolve, and to unite our word upon our noble principles. By doing so, we shall secure for ourselves and our peoples the dignity of this world and the bliss of the hereafter, becoming an example for others in this world. God is our Protector, the best Guardian and the best Supporter.”
