King Saud Farewell Speech to the Syrian Parliamentary Delegation

The principles to which I pledged myself before God upon assuming the throne are as follows:

First: unwavering adherence to the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace be upon him.

Second: readiness to sacrifice all that is precious for the Arab cause, and dedication to achieving the great Arab unity among all Arabs throughout our vast homeland.

Third: to devote my entire life to the advancement of my country, and to remain vigilant in safeguarding the interests of the Arab and Islamic nations.

Our tripartite meeting in Cairo with Presidents Shukri al‑Quwatli and Gamal Abdel Nasser is, by God, a source of pride for all of us and a service to our countries and to the entire Arab world. We entered into this pact not out of ambition or self‑interest—never, by God—but with firm resolve to liberate occupied Palestine, whatever the cost. We resolved to unify the Arab ranks and to remain faithful to the great Arab cause.

We proceed on this path with full confidence in God, and in the Arab peoples, who will not be deceived by foreign propaganda, nor misled by its agents or collaborators. We seek no aggression against anyone, but we will not allow anyone to aggress against us. Our lands are free, our peoples are free, and we shall live free and die free.

Peace be upon you.
