Establishment of King Saud University

By the grace of God,
We, Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud,
King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,

After reviewing the Royal Decree No. 17, issued in Rabi‘ al‑Thani 1377 AH, concerning the establishment of King Saud University,
and based on the submission presented to us by the Minister of Education,
We hereby decree the following:

Article One:
A College of Arts shall be established within King Saud University.

Article Two:
This College shall include the following departments:
Arabic Language and Literature; Islamic Languages and Literatures; General History, Islamic History, and Islamic Civilization; Geography; and European Languages and Literatures.

Article Three:
The duration of study at the College shall be four years.

Article Four:
King Saud University shall, upon the recommendation of the College of Arts, confer the academic degrees specified in the College’s regulations.

Article Five:
The College shall issue regulations specifying the conditions for admission, the detailed academic subjects, the duration of study for each subject, the number of instructional hours allocated to each, the examination system, the degrees awarded to graduates, and the academic requirements for each degree.

Article Six:
The Prime Minister and the Minister of Education shall implement this decree.
