King Saud, followed by President Gamal Abdel Nasser, greeting Egyptian officials during his visit to Egypt as the first Arab leader to visit the country after the 23 July Revolution in 1954. This visit came after President Gamal Abdel Nasser abolished the wearing of the tarboosh, considering it a symbol of authoritarianism and feudalism, after it had long been mandatory for government employees and school students.

King Saud’s second visit to Egypt, undertaken to strengthen Saudi‑Egyptian relations, where he was received by President Muhammad Naguib along with a select group of members of the Revolutionary Command Council, and where he inaugurated a commemorative plaque bearing his name — may they all rest in peace.
