The Visit of His Majesty King Saud to the United States of AmericaOn the 28th of Jumada al‑Akhirah, His Majesty King Saud bin Abdulaziz—may God exalt his rank—arrived in New York City on an official visit to the United States of America, at the invitation of President Eisenhower.
Accompanying His Majesty on this eleven‑day visit were sixty‑six members of the royal family, senior advisers, high‑ranking Saudi officials, and members of the royal entourage.
His Majesty—may God preserve him—brought with him on this blessed journey His Royal Highness Prince Mishhur, one of his sons, who was admitted to Walter Reed Army Hospital for treatment of partial paralysis in his right leg.
During his stay in New York, His Majesty visited the headquarters of the United Nations, where he was received with great warmth and respect. There, he delivered an impressive address, calling upon the members of this international institution to work toward safeguarding world peace, affirming the desire of his government—and of the Arab world as a whole—to achieve that goal.
In Washington, His Majesty held important consultations with President Eisenhower and members of his administration on several matters concerning the interests of both countries, matters that would strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two nations and their peoples.
His Majesty also visited a number of significant sites, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the headquarters of the United States Armed Forces, the Naval Academy in Annapolis, and other notable places.
Perhaps one of the most important events of his stay in Washington was his visit to the Washington Mosque on the first day of Rajab, where he performed the Friday prayer. The mosque, recently completed, combines the beauty of modern architectural design with the elegance of traditional Arab ornamentation.
It is worth noting that His Majesty—may God support him—was received everywhere with the highest expressions of welcome, honor, and respect by officials, foremost among them President Eisenhower and members of his government, as well as by the American public at large, wherever he went.
At the conclusion of this historic visit, His Majesty departed the United States on the 9th of Rajab, heading to Spain on another official visit, aboard President Eisenhower’s private aircraft, which had been placed at His Majesty’s disposal.
It is a source of pride for Qafilat al‑Zayt, which never ceases to pray for His Majesty’s continued success and long life, to adorn its pages with these magnificent images of this historic visit.
