Prince Saud’s Address to His People – 1947

(Umm al‑Qura, Issue 1151, 28 Rabi‘ al‑Thani 1366 AH / 21 March 1947)

To the sons of our dear nation, peace be upon you and God’s mercy and blessings.

In the face of the profound warmth with which we were received in every region of our young Kingdom, and in light of the many expressions of loyalty and devotion shown by our beloved people—manifested in the splendid celebrations and festivals they held in our honor, and which have earned our satisfaction and appreciation—these festivities stand as clear evidence of the deep affection and enduring loyalty that our people hold for His Majesty the revered King, for our person, and for the members of our family.

Before these noble sentiments from our generous people—met on our part with affection and gratitude—we extend to every sincere Saudi our thanks and appreciation for these honorable demonstrations, which testify to the devotion and dedication of this young nation in its love and loyalty to the Sovereign on the Throne and to the members of his noble House.

We also extend our sincere thanks to our sister nation, Egypt, and to its exalted monarch, King Farouk I, for the gracious reception and generous hospitality we encountered—an honor we shall never forget throughout our lives. This hospitality even caused me to momentarily overlook expressing my gratitude to the great and noble American and British peoples, for the honor and warm welcome I received from their governments and peoples, through their presidents, leaders, and officials—an honor I shall always remember with deep thanks and full appreciation.

In conclusion, I ask God to grant this beloved homeland every advancement and success under the reign of His Majesty the revered King—may God preserve him as a pillar of the nation and a source of strength for Arabism and Islam.
