King Saud’s Address to the People of Al‑Madinah

To my people in the City of the Messenger of God,

As I bid you farewell this evening—after the joy and delight I felt in meeting you in this blessed city—I wish to express my gratitude, appreciation, and thanks to every one of you, young and old, residents and Bedouins alike, for the sincere loyalty, pure affection, and mutual goodwill you have shown me. I assure you all of how deeply moved I am by everything I have heard and seen from you, as you have always accustomed me on every occasion.

By God, I return your love with the same, and I feel in the depths of my heart the duty of care I owe to you and to your city. For this reason, I have chosen to be near the Messenger of God—peace be upon him—and near you. I have therefore instructed our Minister of Finance to begin constructing a residence for me among you, so that each year, God willing, I may visit the Prophet’s Mosque, pray in it, and make the blessed journey to it, if God wills. I also wish to meet with you and listen to you.

To all of you, I repeat my thanks. I entrust you to God’s care, and be confident that I am firmly resolved to do everything within my ability to advance this cherished part of our great homeland, to revitalize it, and to ensure a prosperous life for all.

God is the source of success, upon Him we rely.
Peace and God’s mercy and blessings be upon you.
