King Saud’s Address Thanking the People of Jeddah — 1954

The magnificent expressions of loyalty and the profound demonstrations of devotion shown by our noble people in every region we visited of our beloved homeland—and which reached their peak in your celebration today, for which I extend my deepest thanks—are clear evidence of a confidence firmly rooted in hearts, an idea well‑established in minds, and an affection that has grown within souls. All of this stands upon a foundation of mutual satisfaction, shared hope, and reciprocal love between the nation and the one entrusted with its leadership.

It is a resounding declaration that what we pledged to one another in the oath of allegiance has been fulfilled, and that each party has carried out its duty and received its due.

The people have performed their duty of loyalty and obedience, and the ruler has fulfilled his duty of vigilance and care. Blessed are both sides, and honored is the nation.

This stability—built, by God’s grace, upon prosperity, abundant work opportunities, flourishing trade, and comprehensive security and peace extending across the land at a time when many nations of the world are shaken by crises, conflicts, and partisan strife—is the clearest proof and strongest testimony, beyond these noble displays, of the soundness of our condition, the closeness of our hearts, and the strengthening of the bonds of brotherhood in this cherished homeland.

All of this has been achieved only through our adherence to the firm rope of God and our commitment to His Book and the Sunnah of His noble Prophet, peace be upon him. By this guidance, unity was achieved, and through its light, success was granted by God, the Almighty, the Wise.

We believe that what we and our dear people have accomplished this year is but a fruitful beginning—promising even greater and better results. It is a foundation for a higher and stronger structure, an initial step that reflects the direction we have chosen and the plan whose outlines we have drawn—one in which our discerning people have found the goal they seek and the purpose they aspire to.

In this direction—toward which we have turned and which has earned the confidence of all, as evidenced by these splendid manifestations—we shall devote the essence of our thought and the utmost of our effort. We ask everyone to contribute all they can and to uphold the fear of God, for it is the root of wisdom and the key to success. Through this, we shall reach our goal and attain the blessings of this life and the next.

O God, guide us to Your straight path. You are the All‑Hearing, the Responsive.
