My brothers, the first matter to which I call myself—and to which I call you—is the sincere devotion of worship to God alone: the call of Abraham, the call of the prophets after him, and the call brought by our Prophet. It is the word of monotheism: ‘There is no god but God; Muhammad is the Messenger of God.’ By it truth is distinguished from falsehood, faith from disbelief, and through it our souls were raised above the humiliation of idolatry, refusing to submit or yield to any but God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth
