King Saud Speech

Compliance with the Commands of God…

“…You are all aware of the campaigns and claims that have surrounded us—attempts aimed at erasing Islam and its principles, and replacing them with doctrines for which God has sent down no authority. It is therefore incumbent upon both the leadership and the people to remain vigilant, and to uphold the pillars of this religion in this secure land.

We declare before God our innocence from any act that contradicts the noble Islamic law. Our governors are duty‑bound to enforce the shar‘i rulings upon whomever they apply; and our judges are obligated to rule according to what God has revealed, hastening to place truth and justice in their rightful position, as set forth in the Book of God, the Sunnah of His Messenger, and the practice of the Rightly Guided Caliphs.

Those who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong must fulfill their duty as commanded by God and His Messenger. The Almighty says in Surat Āl ‘Imrān, verse 104:
“Let there arise from among you a community that calls to goodness, enjoins what is right, and forbids what is wrong; it is they who are successful.”

And He says in Surat al‑Naḥl, verse 125:
“Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good exhortation, and argue with them in the best manner.”

And He says in Surat al‑Ḥujurāt, verse 12:
“O you who believe, avoid much suspicion—for some suspicion is sin—and do not spy on one another, nor backbite one another.”

This is the guidance of the Qur’an: it commands what is right and forbids what is wrong. We are fully aware of the good that Islam commands, and of the evil that Islam condemns. Therefore, all our governors, judges, and the bodies responsible for enjoining right and forbidding wrong must embody the commands of God, for we are accountable before Him for all that we initiate and all that we repeat in the matters He has entrusted to us…”
