King Saud Address at the Grand Mosque in Buraidah, Al‑Qassim Friday, 28 Rabi‘ al‑Thani 1378 AH / 30 October 1959
Peace and God’s mercy and blessings be upon you.
“O Muslims…
God Almighty has commanded in His Noble Book, saying:
‘And fear God, if you are truly believers.’
O Muslims…
The fear of God, exalted be He, is the foundation of all things, as is preserving the religion of Islam and its laws. We are a Muslim nation; our law is Islam, and our example is the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Prophet. I counsel you—and myself—to fear God in private and in public, and to uphold justice in speech and in contentment. For God Almighty does not look at your forms nor at your words, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds. So fear God, exalted be He, and look to what lies between you—your affairs with one another. Fear Him, and cooperate in righteousness and piety, and be one united nation.
You know well what surrounds you of enemies who fight against religion and against the Shari‘ah, who do not act according to the Book of God nor the Sunnah of His Prophet. So cooperate, O Muslims, in righteousness and piety, and do not cooperate in sin and aggression. We ask God Almighty to grant victory to His religion, to raise His word high, to grant victory to those who support Islam and the Muslims, to humble the enemies of the faith, and to guide us and you to what He loves and is pleased with, and to revive your hearts.
O God, send upon us a gentle, wholesome rain—
abundant, pouring, beneficial and not harmful.
O God, give life to the land through it,
and bring relief to Your servants through it,
and make it a mercy for both near and far—
not a rain of torment, nor destruction, nor flooding.
O God, You know the hardship and distress
that have befallen our land and our people—
we complain of it to none but You,
O Hearer of supplication.
May God grant us and you success
in what He loves and is pleased with,
grant victory to His religion,
and raise His word high.”
