The establishment of Saudi female philanthropic societies

Official volunteer work started in Saudi Arabia in 1951 in Makkah by a call from Salih Muhamed Jamal to collect money from rich merchants in Al-bilad newspaper , saying “ Donate your money to poor people , as Allah has given you of wealth “.
His call was well received by forming the first ( fund of righteousness),in 1951, which was followed by another one in Riyadh by 1954 , which became the nucleus of what is known now as (Association of righteousness) , a Government run charity organization in every Saudi city .
In 1960 King Saud announced the formation of the ministry of labour and social affairs. First women charity organizations , which later flourished around the kingdom , and formed the core of women volunteer work in Saudi Arabia.
