King Saud’s Visit to Najran

A Welcoming Poem for the Late King Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud — may God have mercy on him —
Composed on the occasion of his visit to the Najran region in the year 1373 AH

Welcome, O Sovereign of the Kingdom, in numbers like the falling rain,
Like every heavy cloud that pours forth its abundant blessings.

Welcome to you as many times as those who have performed Hajj and ‘Umrah,
Circled the House of God, and beheld all its sacred pillars.

Welcome, O Saud — ruler of land and sea —
By your presence, even the harshest lands have seen their devils subdued.

Welcome to you as often as Najran’s valleys have flowed and descended,
As often as the winds have swept from Mount Tisallal toward its sands.

We gathered the moment the news reached us,
And the banners were raised high among the assembled men.

O son of Abdulaziz, you are the key to vision and clarity,
The sovereign of Arabdom, the one who elevates its stature.

The House of Faisal — their renown is ancient and enduring,
They are the seat of generosity, its guardians and inheritors.

As for the Yam tribe, their deeds dispel all hardship,
And whoever defies them shall see his wrongs undone.

And when necessity calls, their warriors descend with resolve,
A fine Indian blade in your right hand — wondrous in its strike.
